  Cheryl & Dave Duddell were 4th in the Swiss Pairs and, with team-mates Diana Avis & Colin Wilson, they won both the Multiple Teams and the Swiss Teams.
  Janet & Ted Latham were 3rd in the Mixed Pairs and, with Roy Garthwaite & Heather Hobson, they won the Seniors' Teams

• YCBA Yorkshire Improvers Pairs
  On Sunday 1st April Leeds Bridge Club hosted the inaugural Yorkshire Improvers Pairs Congress. 28 pairs from across Yorkshire took part in the event which was sponsored by Yorkshire Building Society and supported by prizes from No Fear Bridge.
  The rationale behind the congress is to provide a relaxed introduction to tournament play to players who have recently completed the 2 year introductory course and are now participating in club improver events and also to newcomers developing their game in normal club duplicates.
  The event sought to balance the competitive and social elements of the game of bridge and gave us a perfect example of "Best Behaviour At Bridge". Not one cross word was heard and, at each move, introductions and welcomes echoed around the room. A splendid buffet meal gave participants ample scope to exchange their own learning experiences at the half way stage.
  Competition was fierce but Maxine and Trevor Lazenby of Leeds BC stayed consistently ahead of the field whilst the rest battled for the minor places. Several high-flying pairs from the first half fell back in the latter stages and the final result was:-

  2. Tanis Jackson & Gillian Emerson (Huddersfield BC)
  3. Jackie Roberts & Pauline Stout (Wetherby BC)

  where they will play David Musson's team (Graham Jepson, Richard Pike, David Robinson.)

  Bradford A and Sheffield A have reached Round 5.

  Garforth A and Sheffield C are through to Round 4.

  Sandy Davies, Keith Cornish, Tom Gisborne, Arthur Hughes, and Mike Pomfrey are through to Round 4


• Halifax Win Division 10 Play-Off
  Both Halifax C and York D gained over 100 vps in their respective halves of Division 10 this season.
  On Sunday however it was Halifax who sealed the divisional championship with a 15-5 victory.

• Hubert Phillips Bowl
  Sarah Teshome's team, (Richard Winter, Tony McNiff, Ollie Burgess and Nick Woolven) won their semi-final of the Hubert Phillips. They beat Michael Byrne's team (John Holland, Rhona Goldenfield and Duncan Happer) by 2900. The final won't be played for a couple of months yet - but they'll meet either the Hinden team or the Rosen team.

  Three Yorkshire teams have made it through to Round 3:
  Brian Senior's team beat Jeff Smith of Manchester by 27 IMPs in Round 2; they play B March (North-East) next.
  David Musson's team beat Mike Nicholson of Manchester by 28 IMPs; their next opponents are P Foster of Cheshire.
  Cheryl Duddell's team beat Sandy Davies by 3 IMPs; they play North-East's Clive Owen, who beat Brian Ziff in round 2.
