York, Malton, Olicana, Halifax, Sheffield and Leeds teams win Yorkshire League
Congratulations to the winners of the seven divisions of the 2025-26 League season. It was an eventful final match day on 29th March.
In division 1, York A held a lead of 18 victory points over Sheffield A, who they played in the final match. Sheffield won by 15-5, but those five points were enough to secure the divisional title for York.
In division 7, Leeds D already had an unassailable lead and they too were playing the second placed team, Sheffield D. Sheffield had the consolation of winning the match 12-8 but Leeds still won the division by 15.
The most competitive division was the second, where four teams were in the mix for promotion and the title. Malton A and Hull A each had big wins and finished equal on 90 points ,with the tie broken in favour of Malton who earlier in the asean had won the head to head match between the teams. The unlucky teams missing out were York B and the pace setters in the division, Wakefield A.
There were close finishes in divisions 3 and 4 with Olicana B and Halifax A prevailing by five and three victory points respectively. Olicana were the only team in the League to go through the season unbeaten, They won all seven matches on imp scoring but two of these wins were by narrow margins converting to a 10-10 draw in victory points.
By contrast, Sheffield C and Olicana D won divisions 5 and 6 by wide margins of 25 and 20 points respectively. This was Sheffield’s third successive promotion, and both Sheffield and Olicana will surely be among the favourites for further promotion next season
Just one of 203 scheduled matches across the seven divisions remains to be played. This is a postponed match in division 2 which has been rearranged for 26th April and will decide who finishes in seventh place, a relegation position.
Thanks to everyone who took part in the Yorkshire League this season and particularly to all the match secretaries, team captains, duplimators of boards, scorers and others who worked hard behind the scenes to produce a successful competition. Long may it continue!
