End of season review
A report on the outcome of the matches on the final day of the 2025-26 season, 29th March, will shortly be posted on the front page of the website under Latest Results.
The winners of division 2 are Malton A. They finished level on points with Hull A but the tie is broken in favour of Malton, who won the head to head match between the teams. The league table shows Hull listed ahead of Malton – this is because where teams are level on points, the EBU software used to compile the league table lists them in alphabetical order.
Two matches scheduled for Sunday 8th March were postponed – Leeds B v Doncaster A in division 2, and Wetherby D v Olicana E in division 7. The match between Wetheby and Olicana was played on 19th March, and YLC understands the match between Leeds and Doncaster has been rearranged for 26th April. This match will determine which team finishes in seventh place, a relegation position. Leeds, Doncaster and Keighley A are all in jeopardy.
The Yorkshire League Committee had previously decided that the closing date for the 2025-26 season, by which any postponed matches must be played, would be Sunday 26th April.

The Competition Rules were updated for 2025-26 and can be found by clicking on the link in the right hand panel. The changes relate to the requirement for clubs to publish accessibility statements (rule 7) and a clarification of rules 26 and 27 relating to resolution of disputes and appeals. The League Secretary will be happy to provide further information if it is needed.
At the YCBA AGM on 8th June 2024 a question was asked about the Yorkshire League Rules relating to rearrangement of matches by agreement between the teams. The Yorkshire League Committee (YLC) agreed that a statement of its approach to the application of the Rules would be placed on the website.
- There are no restrictions on teams agreeing to play a match on a date earlier than the scheduled date in the fixture list. The approval of the YLC is not required.
- Postponing a match to a date after the one scheduled in the fixture list is more problematic. There are some circumstances, particularly near the end of the season, when teams may gain an advantage, or be perceived to have gained an advantage, from playing with the knowledge of the results achieved by other teams in the division on the match day in question. However, postponements may be allowed with the approval of the YLC. The teams should make a joint application for such approval by email to the League Secretary in good time, and preferably not less than 14 days before the match day in question. The application should give the reasons for the request.
- If a match is played after a scheduled date without prior YLC approval then, depending on the circumstances, either or both teams will be in default, and victory point penalties may be applied as provided in the Rules.
The YLC do not expect a significant increase in the number of postponed matches. The wording of the Rules and the way they are applied may be reconsidered for future seasons, if it appears that teams are exploiting the current arrangements by requesting approval of a postponement when they could have played a match on the scheduled date by bringing in reserve players.
