Rules for Yorkshire League Matches

HOME CAPTAINS must send results to the League Secretary by first class post to arrive not later than Tuesday morning following the match using the form supplied which must be signed by both team captains. Alternatively, results and/or team personnel may be notified to the League Secretary bye-mail by the day following the match. If the result and personnel of both teams are notified bye-mail, the normal results sheet need only be completed as regards the result and captains' signatures. This should be retained by the home team captain until one month after the final league table has been published. (See General Rules in the competition booklet for ruling and appeal procedures).
The following rules, including the General Rules at the rear of the competition booklet, all govern this competition.

  1. Affiliated clubs may apply to enter as many teams as they wish with the proviso that any entry received from a club which had no team in the league in the previous season and is situated in the general locality served by a club or clubs which had a team in the league in the previous season shall bear the endorsement of that club/those clubs. Notwithstanding that, the management committee shall have the power to refuse any application for reason(s) which they consider reasonable and proper. A fee of £20 per team shall be sent with each entry.
  2. The league will consist of divisions each containing as nearly eight teams as possible and any new team will normally be entered in the lowest division.
  3. Two teams will be promoted and two teams relegated between each division unless circumstances provide otherwise.
  4. The winners of Division 1 will be invited to represent Yorkshire in the Garden Cities Trophy teams competition. 50% of the entry fee will be met by the Y.C.B.A.
  5. Players may not represent more than one club during any season and should be members of that club. No player shall play in more than one team in matches for which the "match date" is the same. Any team violating this rule shall be fined two Victory Points per player.
  6. Matches shall consist of 32 boards and opponents shall be changed after each set of 8 boards.
  7. Teams shall consist of eight players. In the case of sudden illness or other exceptional circumstances, eligible substitutes (notifiable to the League Secretary) will be allowed in order that a match may be completed. It is recommended that if any player is of doubtful fitness at the beginning of a match, he / she be not selected.
  8. Scores shall be announced after each set of 8 boards, each board to be scored by I.M.P's. At the end of the match total I.M.P's will be converted to Victory Points on the following scale:-

    Teams will be placed in the Division in acccordance with the total Victory Points gained. In the event of a tie, between two or more teams then the tie will be broken in accordance with E.B.U. regulations.
  1. A programme of match dates (Sundays) has been drawn up and all matches shall be played on or before those dates. No extensions of time will be permitted unless weather conditions (e.g. fog, snow etc.) prevent the play of a match.
  2. Should any match not be played in accordance with Rule 9 the League Secretary shall write to the Secretaries concerned, asking them to state their reasons, within four days, for the failure to play. At the expiration of this period the Management Committee shall, on the information before it, proceed to take appropriate action.
  3. In the event of a team conceding a match, E.B.U. recommendations shall apply.
  4. "Home" Secretaries will be responsible for making all arrangements for playing matches. All matches will commence at 2-00 p.m. unless agreed otherwise. The "Home" Match Secretary must notify the "Visiting" Match Secretary on the official postcard provided by the Y.C.B.A. or by email of the venue and telephone number and also the team captain's name and his / her home telephone number. This must be done not less than 10 days before the match takes place.
  5. Any team fielding a player who is not a member of Y.C.B.A. as defined in General Rule 2, (see Competitions handbook) shall be fined two Victory Points per ineligible player.
